Understand The Gift You Have Been Given :)

I always looked at life as "I'm here and I'll take it as it goes"…and that right there was the wrong way to look at life..   In the last 10 years I realized as to how much of a gift life is and how every drop of a minute is a precious one. My goal in this post is not to sound like a "self-help" dude but make you (the reader) realize this frame of mind as I do. When that happens you will look at things completely in a different light…That I will assure you :) As we all know we are all pages in a book, a beginning and an end, what is written in those pages are all up to us.. that is something we all need to understand. Consider life as a gift, your chances of entering this world are not that great but when you do..you start to unwrapping your gift slowly and things start to reveal. Some good some bad..but in the end we need to harness this gift and do what we love no matter what, no matter what the obstacle, and just have laser focus. By taking that approach,...

How I have used music for inspiration for the past 18 years to Create our Games.

Image
Everybody has their own view on what they need in order to be creative. My biggest tool happens to be music, I find it to be a complete inspiration when it comes to designing a game. The reason why is because quite frankly each song has its own theme as well as its own story. So sometimes as I’m in the middle of designing the look and feel of the game materials and challenges, I’m usually constantly wearing headphones. It pretty much brings me to a completely creative place, and at times I might stop just to listen to lyrics. Motivation is an interesting dynamic, especially when it comes to music. A lot of people get inspired by the design of the song and the beat, which is completely understood. The beat of a song can change the feeling in your body and maybe pump up your adrenaline (if your at a Gym) But I believe the lyrics are more inspirational there anything. The art of storytelling in a song is rare, but when you find one you need to listen to it more than a couple time...

Choosing Our New Cashunt Cities Carefully…

Image
One of the coolest parts of our business is to find new locations for our product that will bring a new game element / theme to the new city that is chosen….but we are picky. A lot of businesses..want to grow rapidly which is fantastic…but that is not our method..I believe rapid growth tarnishes the novelty of the product. For us when we pick a new city it might take a year even two, but it has to fit the criteria. The “criteria” being location, working with the right people, how we can develop our game and have it reinvent itself every year, etc…which we will keep to ourselves. ;) In 18 Years of Cashunt the one thing we are proud of is our reputation..and how that reflects is via the constant repeat clients as well as the fresh faces we see year after year. Building a business is definitely not as easy as people would imagine, just like any other business it takes alot of what many people see as a treaded word..”Work” ;) Once that is achieved and you can sacrifice a few th...

Slow and Steady wins the Race

We have had a wild ride for the past 24 months with expansion cities and being approached by two Hollywood producers to bring Cashunt to Television which has been a fantastic experience and surreal. As we approach our new season in 4 months we will be announcing two new cities for our 15th season.  At that point we will be taking an intelligent break from new expansion and concentrate with the great cities that we currently have in our library. I believe it is a smart move rather than an overload.      Sometimes businesses look for the golden ring quickly and let's call for what it is..%85 failure.  As the old story of Tourtoise and the Hare goes....slow and steady wins the race, making the hare wonder how the Tourtoise always wins every race he challenged him to.  So we have always taken that approach since Cashunt's inception and we will continue with that formula as we move forward.  Not to say we won't listen to considerations, we will know when th...

Always seek out a mentor..and learn.

When I was started out with this crazy idea that we call "Cashunt", I really tried to seek out as much research as I could about "games".    I was really influenced and inspired by cultural aspects of art..film, music, comics, classic games, noir, and theater and put them all together into one product. But sometimes that wasn't enough..so I seeked out a little guidance to make sure I was pointed to the right direction.         So I seeked out people that inspired me in the past, that I would call unbiased and that I call my friends / mentors today. People like Patricia Manning my old marketing/advertising professor, Philip Sabratta my theater professor, and Angela Peri.  Each one different from the other but each one being upfront and honest about the creative direction I was taking.  These lessons they gave me hold true today and will continue to do so..       With that said if you are looking to make a "change" in yo...

Turn your imagination into reality..with 3D Printing.

If you told me 15 years ago we will be talking to each other on our computers or cell phones and looking at each other at the same time through those devices I would say …that's "Jetson's Stuff"  But now we have Skype and FaceTime and we do just that through our computers, phones and now in with our TV's.  Now if I told you that you can create a 3 Dimensional item from a computer using a 3D printer…what would you say to that?  After researching 3D printing my jaw dropped as to what it does and what creative things you can do with it.  Granted it might be a little costly today but it is bound that the prices will drop and we will all have one of these printers in our households very soon! Check out You Tube Video above and get inspired and welcome to the "Jetson Age" :)

New Philadelphia & Washington Logos Released!

We have released our New Logos for the 11th Season Of Cashunt.  The logos are for our NEW "Mad Dash" Games for Philadelphia and Washington DC that will start taking place Spring 2011.  The Philadelphia and Washington Dashes will be for only Teambuilding events as well as monthly public games.  More information as we get closer to the new year.
An Amazing 9th Season Championship! On April 11th we held our 9th Annual Cashunt Championship and I must say I witnessed two of the best teams compete in a very challengeing "Hide N' Seek" competition.  The teams in the final were Jumpstart from the jumpstart group and The Mustachios from the Till Group.  These two teams during their regular season games did amazing and their energy and competitive nature were unmatched to the 87 other winning teams of the year...so this was a Championship made in heaven!  The game that was representing the championship was Cashunt's Hide N' Seek.  Hide N' Seek is played in 2 stages where teams are set forth to find multiple envelopes that are hidden around the city that contain different challenges and the come back in the second stage and retrieve another game card that will lead them to 4 more new location of mystery envelopes.  Both teams started off in a flash but when the smoke settled Jumpstart came out not only...
Championship To Be Pushed To April 2010 Due to the unexpected traffic that we have this ninth season of the game, we are booked right into the 1st week of December which is uncanny. The norm usually is that the season ends in October and then we have our annual Championship in November. But with the recent press and the fantastic response to the game our season is extended. Due to this we want every team to get a shot at the championship, but we can't obviously hold a championship in December due to the weather. So we came with a decision to hold the championship in April, because the weather is much better and the game we have planned for the championship "hide n' seek" is best played in better weather conditions. If we see this growing into a trend again next year, all our championships will be performed the following spring. The top 4 will be notified immediately after the season is done, so check the leader board and see where you currently rank. I know to so...

One Team Breaks A Three Year Record Only For It To Be Broken Again! Ok..ok what is going on Cashunters!! Is it something in the water or what?! We have seen teams every week for the past 9 years and all of them young or old have had a competitive edge to them...but not like Season 9! This year most of the teams playing are really pushing the envelope to secure a spot in the finals in the Fall. A month ago we had the Mamma Jammas come in and play the game and wipe out a three year record that was held by Fidelity Investments, only to be broken this past week. Chris Damianakos our head game coordinator mentioned this past week the "Perfect Persians" team came in and right before the game even started vowed to be in the top four. To his surprise not only did they get into the top four but they wiped out the Mamma Jamma's record! Damianakos said that this is what the game is all about and this year's Championship is promising to be a battle for the crown. But Cas...

Give what the people want, don't give them a stale game... After looking into some other games around the country I came to one conclusion on some of them, but not all of them are "stale". What do I mean as to "stale" is pretty much what I like to call a "blue print" game that gets used over and over and over again. I really think that does not make your game original one bit, it's just a "cookie cut" type of game. You want to be original, exciting, hip, challengeing, funny, cool, and leave the game totally satisfied, if the game is not everybody loses. I see other games that use those words and I would even want to play their games because they look like a lot of fun, and I think it's safe to say we at Cashunt also uses those words. In the end it's about the client and the product meshing, and once they do, your game has done it's homework.

Competition Creates Comedy I am just lovin' this years version of the bridal dash, especially with new additions to the game. I always say this to everybody that plays this game and that is that the ending is my favortie part of the game. The reason is after doing this for 8 years you think I have seen it all as to what these teams bring back...but honestly I haven't. Each team uses their improv abilities to there best ability and the return results are always hilarious! Some of the videos that they capture I have to watch them a couple of times because they are just too funny. So I guess the bottom line is that compettion creates comedy :)
