My Top 2019 Team building Suggestions

It’s summertime and when it comes to the corporations, offices, and communities  that means team building season is in full swing! With that said the question is "what type of team building exercise do you want to pursue, and will that be suitable for your colleagues and or staff?"

With all due respect, a simple pig roast or cocktail party doesn’t really ooze team building. However you can include it...but after the team building event because the event will become a social conversational piece. The ultimate goal is to have a day of fun as well extending communication and relationships within your organization. So what I decided to do since I am  in that line of work to provide you was a few type of team building event you should look into.

Building For A Charity

This type of team building exercise has been around now for the past several years, and is always something that is special amongst corporate circles. Charity team building can be used in so many different ways, however the reward is very humbling and will bring a smile to everyone's face. It's an unbelievable service of the community.  The most common of team building exercises are building bikes together for less fortunate children and delivering them as a surprise, an amazing experience.  Don't every overlook the community that your business is located in where they might need your volunteer service to work on a downtown project etc.  It is much needed and something you can simply find out by taking a trip to your town/city hall.  It makes you go away from this team building event as accomplishing something as a team with  the reward of bringing joy to individuals or a community.

Cooking Classes

Cooking classes have been rather popular amongst recent team building outings. How it works is rather simple. A project is presented from a test kitchen chef to the group that is split into teams to work together in order to produce and execute a specific dish. Think of it as "Hell's Kitchen without anyone yelling at you :-) You are judged by the in house Chef as to what team has created the best dish. If you love to cook this is a big plus, if have always been interested in the culinary arts..this might be a great introduction.  Everyone can benefit in this type team building exercise and who know they possibly could discover a new talent that they might never have known they had :)

Backyard games

"Backyard Games" have always been staples in the Team building industry, especially in the summer months.  Think of it this way… field day for adults. You may ask? " Will it memorable? Yes, Will it be fun? Yes...Will it be competitive.. most definately :)  But you might be asking as well..."What type of games and how many??"  I would bring it down to 10 to 12 game events so it is an all day event.
Here are some examples..Go to the classics:

  • The Egg Toss
  • Wheel Barrel Race
  • Potato Sack Race
  • Hula Hoop Competition
Finish it off with the Ultimate Team vs Team Final...The Dreaded  TUG OF WAR!

Present trophies and the final and then finish it off with a nice little pig roast.
It’s a complete day of recreation fun and memories.

Scavenger hunts

Scavenger hunts have always been another big staple in the team building industry just like backyard games. There are so many different scavenger hunt games that are being offered out there, and all them have their own take on this classic game!  My suggestion is to listen to a few scavenger hunt companies and see what they are offering, how they’re customizing, and what their final execution is. That way you will have a clearer indication as to which game will fit your needs as well as your budget.
With the rise of competitive reality shows such as the Amazing Race, the popularity of Scavenger Hunts has risen every year.   It has been a great time for our industry.  It's as if you are on a  reality show competition without the TV cameras following you. You will love this type of team building event just as if you would love the backyard competition that I mentioned previously. Scavenger Hunts and Backyard games are great for people that want to break out of the shells as well as for the competitive and the ones that say they are not...We'll see about that ;)

Those are my Top 4 team building events I would suggest to anyone planning a future team building outing.  It's all about having fun and enjoying everybody's company for a few hours outside of the office space. It is a very healthy thing that should be done twice a year..winter and summer..it keeps the moral up and builds existing relationships as well as creating new ones.  Sometimes we need to decompress and make some great memories that might reward a young child with a new bike, finding your inner Emeril or the glory of winning a fun filled competition..  Happy Planning!
